Today would have been Julia Child's 100th birthday. Isn't it amazing when someone can touch so many people that we still think of them and celebrate their lives even after they are gone? I remember watching Julia Child on PBS when I was younger. She didn't inspire me to cook back then, but I did enjoy her show. I thought she was funny and seemed to really love cooking. It wasn't until much later when I took cooking classes that I realized what an icon she was. Today another generation has gotten to know Julia from movies and blogs. I hope people continue to read her books and try her recipes. Here are two of my favorite quotes from Julia, "You don't have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces-just good food from fresh ingredients." and "This is my invariable advice to people: Learn how to cook-try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless, and have fun!" The thing I have taken away from Julia Child is that cooking doesn't have to be complicated, use fresh ingredients, but most important-take the time to enjoy the cooking process and the wonderful meals you create.
Here are some books by Julia Child to inspire you in the kitchen.
