Onion Dip
As my husband says, "This is the best dip I have ever had!" This delicious homemade onion dip is perfect served with vegetables, pita wedges, crackers or chips.
1 tablespoon olive or canola oil
2 cups chopped onion (sweet onions like Vidalia or Walla Walla work best) 1 tablespoon minced garlic |
1 cup non-fat plain Greek Yogurt (or sour cream)
1/4 cup light mayonnaise 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce salt to taste |
- Heat a large, heavy skillet over medium heat.
- Pour oil into hot skillet. When oil is hot, add onions and cook about 10 minutes. Stirring often.
- Stir garlic into onions. Lower heat to medium-low, cook onions and garlic another 20-25 minutes. Stir occasionally, onions should be caramelized.
- Remove pan from heat when done and allow to cool.
- In a small bowl, combine, yogurt, mayonnaise and Worcestershire sauce. Stir cooled onions into dip, add salt to taste.
- Refrigerate at least 2 hours before serving. This can definitely be made the day before.
