Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce
A simple spaghetti recipe that everyone likes because the tomato sauce isn't overpowering. You can use whole wheat thin spaghetti for this recipe because not even picky eaters can tell the difference between the whole wheat pasta and regular pasta.
Ingredients:
1 pound whole wheat spaghetti
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 large chopped onion
2-3 cloves minced garlic
1 (6 oz) can no-salt added tomato paste
1/2 cup each red wine and water
1 (14.5 oz) can no-salt added crushed tomatoes
9 chopped fresh basil leaves
1 pound whole wheat spaghetti
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 large chopped onion
2-3 cloves minced garlic
1 (6 oz) can no-salt added tomato paste
1/2 cup each red wine and water
1 (14.5 oz) can no-salt added crushed tomatoes
9 chopped fresh basil leaves
Directions:
- Heat a medium saucepan over medium high heat. Add the oil and saute the onions and garlic until golden brown.
- Add tomato paste. Stir 2-3 min. Add water, wine, crushed tomatoes, and basil leaves.
- Bring the sauce to a boil. Lower heat to low and simmer stirring occasionally for at least 20 min.
- Cook pasta according to package directions.
- In a large bowl, mix sauce and pasta well. Serve warm.
